Plot For Family Murder

Being social media–free has been just as eye-opening as sobriety. Truly. The world is not built for people who aren’t married to their phones—much like it’s not built for people who don’t drink. I always noticed how buried everyone was in their devices, but wow… I did not realize how deep the addiction ran until I stepped away completely.

I get it. Social media gives people a sense of purpose. An audience. A constant, captive audience. Validation on demand. And if that works for you, Mazel. It just doesn’t work for me anymore.

I’m perfectly content with my blog. No likes. No comments. No performance metrics. Just my thoughts. My online journal. Quiet. Honest. Peaceful. That said—don’t worry—I’m still a working girl. 💅

Case in point: my annual trip to Oklahoma for the Williams Tulsa Route 66 Marathon was the BEST ever. Gorgeous weather all weekend. A delightful 5K. A half marathon that ended way too soon. I got to watch Oklahoma finally wake up this season and absolutely OWN Alabama. I spent quality time with my BFF. And I learned—brace yourselves—that Daddy told Mommy I hated her so much that I was allegedly plotting her murder and planned to kill her if and when I could get her alone.

So yeah. Perfect weekend.

LMFAOOOOOO.

At some point, you have to let things go. And that’s hard. Deeply frustrating. Especially when you grow up in an unwell situation and don’t fully understand just how unwell it was until much later. I honestly don’t know how I made it out as functional as I did—but I absolutely deserve a medal. And yes, I could just go buy myself one. I’ve done that before.

Just remember this: life is a constant struggle. You are not alone in it. And whenever you think things couldn’t possibly get worse—think of me and laugh. Because it could be worse.

At least your parents don’t think you’re plotting their murder.

This holiday season, put your devices down when you’re with your family—especially if you want them to know your love and empathy are real and you’re not secretly planning a crime. You can post later. You can check your likes later. Live in the present.

Because honestly? You all look ridiculous staring at your phones nonstop anyway.

It’s working for me.

Try it.

Happy Thanksgiving 🦃
